Hawthorne is a diverse working class community in Middle River, Maryland.
The neighborhood consists of over 1800 homes including waterfront properties which were once summer cottages, brick town houses built in the 1950's, and the area called Kingston Park, more town houses built a few years later. |

Hawthorne is located on a peninsula. Eastern Boulevard is on the north-east side of the community and the rest is surrounded by water which many residents enjoy fishing and crabbing in: Middle River, Cow Pens Creek and Dark Head Creek. There is also a grocery store and elementary school right on the peninsula. Many people buy their first home in Hawthorne and many homes are passed down from one generation to the next.
The Hawthorne Civic Association (a registered 501c3 non profit with the state of Maryland) was formed in 1953. The HCA is a membership group whose purpose is to advocate for the good of the community and all those who live here. Anyone who lives on the peninsula is welcome to join. Dues are just $5 per year, per household. Our meetings are currently held on the first Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise posted.
